Support

You don't need an account to play Guesstastic. If something isn't working, here's the short list of what it usually is.

Getting into a game

Someone sent me a code
Open the app, tap Join, and type it in. Codes are two words, like bold-otter — the dash doesn't matter and neither does capitalization.
Scanning the QR code does nothing
Point either the app's scanner or your phone's own Camera app at it. If you have the app installed, a Guesstastic link opens the app instead of the browser. If it opens Safari anyway, the app hasn't registered the link yet — force-quit it, reopen it once, and try again.
Not everyone has a phone
They don't need one. One phone can hold as many players as you like: add them all from the lobby and pass the phone around when it's their turn. Two phones — one per team — is the sweet spot.
My phone died mid-game
Nothing is lost. Open the game on another phone and tap your name in the roster to move yourself onto it. You'll pick up where you left off, and the old phone stops being you.

During a turn

I can't hear the buzzer
The app plays the buzzer through the media channel, so the silent switch doesn't mute it — but the volume does. Turn the volume up before you start. Every phone in the game buzzes, not just the one performing.
The screen keeps going dark
That's on purpose. The word is on screen for a whole turn, and tilting the phone toward the room is how everyone reads it. When you turn the phone away from yourself, the screen blacks out. Turn it back and the word comes back. You can switch it off in Settings if you'd rather.
The screen went dark and stayed dark
Tap it. If it's still dark, switch the privacy dimmer off in Settings and tell us — that one shouldn't happen.
The board didn't update
Pull down to refresh. The app reconnects on its own after a dropped connection, but a phone that was asleep for a long time sometimes needs the nudge.

Accounts

Do I need one?
No. An account only adds things: your word bank, your past games, and a name that follows you between devices. Everything else works signed out.
Delete my account
Settings → Delete account, in the app. It removes your account and everything attached to it right away — no waiting period and no email to send. If you only ever signed in on the website, email us and we'll do it for you.
I paid for an account before
Your account still works exactly as it did. Nothing you paid for was taken away.

Words and what other players can see

Can I change a word after I've written it?
Yes, until the game starts. Go back to your words in the lobby and type over the one you want to change.
Someone wrote something they shouldn't have
Words are only ever seen by the people in your game, and only one person sees a word at a time — the one performing it. Before the game starts, whoever made the game can remove a player from the roster, which takes their words with them. After it starts, the fix is to stop and start a new game — it takes about ten seconds and gets you a new code.
Playing with kids
Turn on Kids mode when you make the game and words become emoji only.

Still stuck

Email hello@guesstastic.com and say what phone you're on and what happened. If it's a game that went wrong, the game code helps a lot.
